Tailoring department in 2010- only 3 machines |
The difference made by the generosity of a few individuals in Dolen Ffermio. This year 19 students graduated after 3 years training. |
In 2011 the building/ joinery department had little equipment ,no security ,no electricity and no vices that worked. |
In 2011 Dolen Llanbrynmair sent 2 small crates of hand tools and collection of text books requested by the teachers |
Its not ideal to sit on your work while you are chiselling , but projects went ahead and the next thing we were shown was- |
6 bunk beds commissioned for the girls dormitory made entirely with hand tools
Also this desk and chair
In the summer of 2012 we sent some benches with vices and some small hand held machines .
With the hand held circular saw the students made these desks for a new class room.
.
The students also built a sick bay for the college
We saw the completed building when we visited in June
In the meantime. and partly because of all the new equipment and the activity it was generating .the Government built a new workshop for the carpentry and joinery department ,which was opened in July 2013
August saw the arrival of 2 pallet loads of equipment including a lathe and a planer /thicknesser Fortunately Steve Jagger was able to go and help put the machines together and to give assistance with other projects.
Finally in October we were able to send some money for wood and since then the students have been very busy .The intention is to produce furniture for the local market and with the profits buy further supplies of wood and pay for the upkeep of the machinery etc .
Now that they have a planer ,this kind of quality furniture can be made
